Deion Sanders Gives Thanks to God Following Cancer Struggle, Asking 'Without Prayer, Where Would We Be?'

Sanders Declares Cancer-Free Status

On Monday, Sanders and his medical team expressed their joy as they announced he is now cancer-free after facing intense health challenges. In April, doctors found a tumor in his bladder, which led to surgery the following month. During that procedure, they successfully removed his bladder and constructed a neo-bladder using a portion of his small intestine, allowing him to lead a nearly normal life.

At 57, Sanders is in his third season as the head coach for the Colorado Buffaloes, and there was never any doubt about his intention to continue coaching. He has immense faith in God and his doctors, who played crucial roles in his health journey.

“God is very good,” Sanders remarked, flanked by his medical team at the podium.

Being an outspoken Christian, he emphasizes the importance of faith. Reflecting on his experiences, he said he often questioned, “God, why am I here?” He expressed gratitude for his life, position, and family.

“Throughout this whole journey, I said to myself, ‘God, why am I?'” he shared. “Why have you given me the opportunity to be a head coach or to raise five wonderful children?”

Sanders leaned heavily on prayer during his battle with cancer, seeking guidance and strength. He acknowledged the impact of his diagnosis on both him and those around him.

“Everyone in this room has been touched by that C-word in some way—whether it’s parents, friends, or loved ones,” he noted.

“The devil had to ask God, ‘Did you consider my servant Prime?’ I know he is going to expand my life, and I will praise Him for that,” he added.

In a social media post, Sanders expressed deep appreciation for prayers and support, advocating for the power of faith.

“Without prayer, where are we?” he wrote, thanking those who have stood by him through this journey.

Additionally, Sanders emphasized the importance of regular medical checkups, noting that his cancer was discovered during an annual CT scan. He hopes that sharing his experience will encourage others to prioritize their health.

“If it could happen to me, it can happen to you,” he warned.
