Deion Sanders says he's happy in Colorado amid rumors that Coach Prime could be on the Cowboys' short list if the team moves on from Mike McCarthy.
Sanders has been touted as a potential opening pitcher by former Cowboys great Michael Irvin and others, but the Colorado coach has done his best to dampen the chatter.
“I'm happy with where I'm at,” Sanders told reporters Tuesday. “I lowered the kickstand. You know what a kickstand is? … So that means I’m resting. I’m fine, I’m happy, I’m excited. I’m excited about where I am. I love it here, I really love it.”
The NFL great and former Cowboys defensive back seemed to jokingly admonish Colorado athletic director Rick George, who shared the stage with him.
“Are you going to talk to my AD like that here? That's very rude,” Sanders said. “Are we here to talk about going somewhere with the AD?”
In his second year on the job, Sanders transformed the Colorado State football program into a Big 12 powerhouse.
The program is 8-2 this season, with only one game against a Kansas opponent, a 31-28 loss to Kansas State on Oct. 12.
Sanders will take over the program at the end of 2022, signing a five-year, $29.5 million contract to rebuild a team that went 1-11 that year.
The Buffaloes are two wins away from clinching a spot in the Big 12 title game.
They have been led by receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter and quarterback Shedur Sanders, who is also the head coach's son.
Colorado plays Kansas on the road this weekend and hosts Oklahoma State on Nov. 29 for its final two games of the season.
