Deion Sanders Reflects on a Challenging Season
A year ago, Deion Sanders was riding high, with discussions about potentially becoming head coach of the Dallas Cowboys swirling around him. It was quite the moment, but oh, how things have shifted since then.
Recently, Colorado College ended its season with a disappointing 24-14 loss to Kansas State University, wrapping up a 3-9 record. Not exactly the finish fans were hoping for.
Star quarterback Shedeur Sanders has moved on to the NFL, signing with the Browns. Travis Hunter, who captured the Heisman Trophy, is now playing with the Jaguars. The excitement and victories that once made Colorado a team to watch have felt, well, absent this season.
That loss on Saturday marked the Buffaloes’ fifth consecutive defeat, sealing a season without a bowl game. Sanders expressed his frustration, stating, “We’ll never be in a situation like this again, I can promise you that. I’m not satisfied with anything right now. Nothing at all.”
The team faced a major talent drain this year, which significantly impacted their performance. Sanders rotated through three different quarterbacks. Kaidon Salter took most of the snaps, while Ryan Staub had his turn, and true freshman Julian “JuJu” Lewis started the last two games before moving to a redshirt status. Despite these changes, none of them found the connector needed to lead the team effectively.
Post-game, Sanders took a moment to thank the media for their support throughout the rough season and assured them that things will be different next year.
He remarked, “There’s no need to relax. I’ve been in this for a long time. I welcome the cheers in victory and even the jeers in defeat. I know the game inside and out, and I love its intricacies. I’m here for the long run.”
In closing, he emphasized his commitment to turning things around, saying, “If anyone can get this back on track, it’s me. If it’s the last effort I make, I will do it. Believe me when I say this was the last supper.”
