Deion Sanders Engages in Interview with Son Shedeur
On Wednesday, Deion Sanders had an interesting time interviewing his son, Shedeur Sanders, who’s the rookie quarterback. Their conversation quickly became a topic of discussion, and it seemed like Deion was quite pleased with how the team is considering veteran Joe Flacco while keeping fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel on the bench.
Using a series of laughing emojis, the NFL Hall of Famer remarked playfully, “One son. You did that,” as reported by ESPN Cleveland.
Shedeur’s quiet reactions seemingly stirred up some headlines related to the Browns’ choice to place him third on the depth chart while promoting Gabriel to a starting position. However, as time went on, the spotlight shifted to a different angle.
It turned out Shedeur’s responses were sparked by comments made by ESPN analyst Rex Ryan, who had criticized the young quarterback earlier in the week, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Shedeur stirred the pot during a chat with ESPN Cleveland last week, which didn’t sit well with Ryan. The 23-year-old described his feelings during his Monday appearance on “Get Up,” where he had some strong retorts aimed at Ryan.
Ryan later expressed his reservations about Shedeur, saying, “There’s something missing with this kid. He talks big but should focus on studying to really shine.” He suggested that Shedeur has the potential but needed to put in the work and not make a spectacle of himself.
This exchange didn’t go unnoticed. Shedeur’s mother, Pilar, responded passionately, labeling Ryan as “cancer” on social media following his remarks.
The Browns recently opted for Gabriel over the 24-year-old rookie, preparing for an upcoming game against the London Vikings. Gabriel was picked in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft, whereas Shedeur was selected two rounds earlier.
Flacco, who is now 40, began his second stint with the Browns, who currently hold a 1-3 record this season. Previously, he had led the team to a playoff appearance during the 2023 season before moving to the Colts during the 2024 offseason, eventually rejoining the Browns in April.
