Deion Sanders Reveals NFL Interest in His Son, Shedeur

Deion Sanders recently shared insights about the NFL teams that contacted his son, Shedeur Sanders, before he was picked in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Shedeur, a standout from the Colorado Buffaloes, was selected 144th overall by the Cleveland Browns.

In a Monday episode of the “New Heights” podcast, Deion discussed the guidance he provided to Shedeur during his rookie year. He mentioned that both the Eagles and Ravens reached out in April, though he didn’t specify the exact dates during the draft held from April 24-26.

“How in the world did they do a big deal? Philadelphia called us on draft day,” Sanders revealed to brothers Travis and Jason Kelce, who have both had lengthy careers with the Eagles. “Well, they didn’t mention it, huh? I just spilled the beans. Philadelphia called.”

Jason appeared taken aback by this news.

“No, that’s fine. I had no clue,” the retired center replied.

The Eagles ended up selecting quarterback Kyle McCord from Syracuse as their 181st pick in the sixth round of the draft.

“Baltimore [called], and then the Browns,” Sanders continued. “They seem to forget I played for Baltimore. We understood each other. He wanted to talk to Shedeur but first wanted to chat with me. I put Shedeur on the line, but I can’t say how that went.”

“Why is someone out there asking why he would return to Lamar Jackson for ten more years? Who thinks like that?” he added.

Shedeur performed admirably in the Browns’ preseason opener, completing 14 of 23 passes for two touchdowns and 138 yards in a 30-10 win over the Panthers on August 8. However, he faced a setback due to an oblique injury sustained during a joint practice with the Eagles on August 13.

In the preseason finale on August 23, he struggled in the second half of a 19-17 victory.

Despite some challenges, Deion Sanders is optimistic about his son’s future. “I told him, ‘Son, you need to be ready, because when the time comes, it will happen,’” Sanders explained. “I have a feeling about what’s ahead, but I haven’t shared it with anyone. It’s coming.”

Shedeur was actually the second quarterback the Browns selected in the draft, following the addition of Dillon Gabriel from Oregon at No. 94.

Add to that, the Browns’ quarterback lineup also includes seasoned veterans Joe Flacco and Deshaun Watson.

Next, the Browns (1-2) are set to face the Lions (1-1) in Detroit on Sunday.
