Deion Sanders shades Cormani McClain as he transfers from Colorado

Deion Sanders took a veiled shot to cornerback Komani McClain.

McClain, a five-star recruit and the nation’s top-ranked cornerback in his high school class last year, will enter the transfer portal, according to 247.

Sanders was asked about McClain’s decision in an interview with DNVR earlier this week, and his response indicated that the head coach was not impressed with the outgoing player’s efforts during his year in Boulder.

“I always pray for young people and want the best for them. I pray to God that he will,” Sanders said.

“Unfortunately, we weren’t the program to get that done, so hopefully he understands this is a second round and gets it done, because he’s a tremendous talent. But he has to want it.”

Running back Alton McCaskill is also in the transfer portal.

Speaking about the portal in general, Sanders wasn’t too disappointed in the players leaving Colorado.

“A lot of people are fighting for backup.” He said. “When a player is a starter and you move on, you have to think about it seriously. There are players who come on visits right away and you can attract those types of players, but you have to make sure you don’t lose those types of players. I think it’s okay.”

Sanders is in his second season at Colorado and the program’s first year in the Big 12.

Last year, Colorado State got off to a strong start, winning its first game of the season on the road at No. 17 TCU, followed by home wins over Nebraska and Colorado State.

However, the season took a turn for the worse, with the team finishing last in the Pac-12 in eight of the last nine games and the last six straight.
