Dell becomes latest company to mandate 5 days a week in office

Dell Technologies announced Thursday that employees on its global sales team who can work from an office will be required to report to work five days a week starting Sept. 30, according to a memo seen by Reuters.

The change is to leverage a collaborative environment to “improve skills,” which requires teams to be in the office, the memo said. “Remote working should be the exception, not the norm,” he added.

Field representatives on the sales team are expected to spend five days a week either with customers and partners or in the office. The team was previously required to work in the office three days a week, according to the memo.

“Remote sales team members who are unable to travel to a Dell office should continue to work remotely,” Dell added.

The company also said it plans to provide further information regarding remote workers in the coming weeks.

Since the pandemic, many companies have allowed employees to work from home. But some tech companies are now asking employees to return to the office two or three days a week.

Last week, e-commerce giant Amazon announced that it would require employees to return to offices five days a week starting next year, strengthening its previous three-day work requirement.
