Delta Air Lines passenger violently attacked retiree over reclining seat, lawsuit claims

Delta Passengers Allegedly Assault Retired Woman on Flight

A federal lawsuit has emerged alleging that a retired woman faced a disturbing incident while traveling with Delta Air Lines. The 72-year-old Minnie Holmes, who is grieving the loss of her son, was reportedly assaulted by intoxicated passengers during a flight from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Minneapolis.

The lawsuit, filed against Delta on Tuesday, detailed a confrontation that began when a female passenger complained about Holmes reclining in her seat. It was noted that the atmosphere on the flight became tense, as other passengers, fueled by excessive alcohol, became vocal and disruptive.

After Holmes’ daughter attempted to address the situation by asking the woman to move to her own seat, the woman reportedly refused, which increased tension. Subsequently, Delta staff advised the group that it was permissible for female passengers to recline their seats. However, the lawsuit claims that the couple involved continued to drink, leading them to become even more aggressive.

During a moment when Holmes was retrieving something from her bag, it was alleged that an angry male passenger reached over and struck her in the chest, causing her significant pain.

This shocking incident has understandably led to serious distress for Holmes. The lawsuit contends that the aftermath of the attack has left her unable to even view photos from her trip due to the traumatic experience.

Holmes is now seeking financial compensation from Delta for medical expenses, pain, and emotional suffering incurred as a result of this alleged assault. Delta, in response to the claims, reiterated its stance on maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards inappropriate behavior on its flights.
