Delta Airlines Jets Have Close Call Over Atlanta Airport

Recently, two Delta Airlines jets narrowly avoided a collision over Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta. This incident triggered cockpit alarms, and it’s currently being looked into by federal authorities.

The near miss happened around 11 p.m. on a Monday night, according to a statement from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

As described by the FAA, “Delta Flight 2472 was taking off from Hartsfield-Jackson when it crossed paths with Delta Flight 1568. At the same time, another aircraft was held up on the same runway, prompting one flight to execute a go-around.”

In audio recordings from air traffic control obtained by CBS News, the warning system blared in the cockpit. One pilot can be heard responding with a casual, “So-so,” which, I guess, underscores how tense the situation actually was.

Delta Airlines later stated that the crew followed standard procedures and highlighted their extensive training to handle such scenarios. They also reassured that safety remains a priority in all operations.

According to Delta, “The crew of Delta Flight 1568 performed a go-around due to potential runway congestion. They followed established procedures to keep safe distances from other air traffic.” In simple terms, they took the necessary precautions to ensure everyone remained safe.

Fortunately, the flight landed without incident, and all passengers disembarked as planned. I can only imagine the collective sigh of relief once they were on solid ground.

The FAA is actively investigating. Delta has stated their willingness to cooperate fully with authorities throughout this review process.
