Dem AG in Wisconsin charges Trump associates with felony in connection with 2020 election

Wisconsin’s Democratic attorney general has filed felony charges against three associates of former President Donald Trump in connection to the 2020 presidential election.

On Tuesday morning, Attorney General Josh Kaul filed charges against two of President Trump’s lawyers, Kenneth Chesbro, 62, and Jim Troupis, 70, as well as former Trump aide Mike Roman, 51.

“The Democrats are turning America into a banana republic.”

The three of them document They created a list of 10 electors who would certify Trump as the winner of Wisconsin in 2020. They then allegedly passed the document on to a staff member of a Pennsylvania congressman, who attempted to submit it to then-Vice President Mike Pence on January 6, 2021.

Kaul claims those electors are not the state’s “duly appointed presidential electors,” and many media outlets have called the defendants’ alleged conspiracy a “fake electors” case. Officially, Joe Biden won Wisconsin by less than 21,000 votes in 2020.

Chesbro, Tulpis and Roman were each charged with advertising a forged document or item as genuine, a Class H felony in Wisconsin that carries a maximum sentence of six years in prison and a $10,000 fine. W Bay report.

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers, also a Democrat, responded to the allegations by saying simply, “Good.”

In March, Chesebro and Tulpis settled a civil lawsuit brought by Democrats over the 2020 Wisconsin election. As part of the settlement, their lawyers agreed never to try to influence a presidential election in this way again, but they did not admit to wrongdoing.

Ten “fake” Republican electors settled the same lawsuit in December. So far, they have not been charged with criminal offenses, but the Associated Press reported that Kraul has not ruled out the possibility of filing charges in the future. “Our approach has been focused on following the facts where they lead,” he said.

The fake electors are already Criminal charges were filed Eighteen people, including Trump, Chesebro and Roman, have been charged in Michigan and Nevada with conspiring to overturn the results of the 2020 election in those states. Chesebro has already pleaded guilty to conspiracy to submit false documents. Roman has pleaded not guilty to organized crime and conspiracy charges.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) slammed the lawsuit filed in his state, calling it further evidence of Democrats’ arbitrary weaponization of the justice system.

“Democrats are now weaponizing the Wisconsin judiciary,” he tweeted. “Apparently it’s illegal for conservative lawyers to advise their clients under Democrat tyranny. Democrats are turning America into a banana republic.”
