President Joe Biden said on CBS’s “The President’s Office.” Sunday MorningHe said he chose not to seek reelection because “my colleagues in the House and Senate believe I would harm them in the November election.”
“The polls were predicting a close race, and it would have been close all the way to the end, but many of my Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate thought I would be a disadvantage to them in the race, and they were concerned that if we continued the campaign, that would become a talking point,” Biden said.
He continued, “Number one, I thought it was really distracting. Number two, when I first ran, I thought I was in a transition period to be in the presidency — I can’t even tell you how old I was. The words just wouldn’t come out of my mouth. But things moved so quickly that that didn’t happen. And for me, I thought it was still an important issue to preserve our democracy. I’m not kidding.
