Dem Rep. Ritchie Torres Slams ‘Self-Delusion’ over Biden’s Mental Fitness

Democratic Rep. Ritchie Torres of New York has slammed President Joe Biden’s “continued pattern of denial and self-deception” about his mental state, arguing that future media appearances will not provide the “political relief” the 81-year-old president so desperately needs.

In a now-viral post shared on social media on Thursday, Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.) pointed to a persistent problem within the Biden campaign: “The narrative of a one-time poor presidential debate performance reflects an ongoing pattern of denial and self-deception.”

“The president didn’t just have one bad debate,” he explained. “What we saw in ‘Lying Eyes’ is evidence of a much deeper challenge.”

Torres, who represents New York’s 15th congressional district and left the State of New York’s progressive caucus over its members’ outlandish criticism of Israel, expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of his upcoming public comments, including a press conference scheduled for Thursday night and an interview on NBC Monday night.

“The idea that this interview or this press conference is going to save the president is missing the forest for the trees,” he argued.

“I will listen respectfully to the president’s press conference tonight and his interview on Monday night, but I don’t know if I can stand to make one public statement. [bare] “It’s the bare minimum that should be expected of a Democratic candidate,” he added. “Neither tonight’s press conference nor Monday night’s NBC interview will provide the political relief the president is seeking.”

Torres finally acknowledged that it was inevitable that the president would become the Democratic nominee, despite “complex circumstances.”

“If the president officially becomes the Democratic nominee, he will have no choice but to make the best of a complex situation,” he wrote. “But there’s no point in denying the complexity.”

The issue comes as congressional Democrats continue to call for Biden to step down, sparking widespread panic after rumors circulated that the 81-year-old Biden might be replaced in a last-ditch effort to win the election following Biden’s lackluster performance in a farmer debate with President Donald Trump in Atlanta last month.

At a NATO summit on Thursday, Biden mistakenly referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as Russian President Vladimir Putin, raising further concerns among some Democrats about Biden’s health and political viability.
