Breitbart News reporter Bradley Jay reported that Thompson, who led the now-disbanded January 6 Select Committee, introduced legislation in April that would strip Trump of Secret Service protection if he were convicted.
Thompson called it “a law that denies unlimited security and government resources to convicted and highly dishonored former probationers.”
Thompson is also the top Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee, which is charged with keeping Americans safe.
“There is no place in our American democracy for political violence. I am grateful for the swift police response to this incident. I am glad our former president is safe. Thoughts and prayers go out to all involved,” Thompson wrote on Sunday.
