Demarcus Cousins, often referred to as “Boogie,” has been sidelined for the remainder of the season with the Puerto Rican basketball team following a disturbing incident with fans on Monday. The Baron Sesto Superiana Cional League (BSN) confirmed the decision on Tuesday.
During the game, the four-time NBA All-Star was ejected after he was seen grabbing a courtside fan’s arm, leading to the escalation of tensions.
BSN officials announced that Cousins received a $4,250 fine for multiple fouls and actions that incited others. Interestingly, if he cannot provide justification, the fine could rise to $10,000.
Playing for Mets do Guinabo, Cousins found himself embroiled in drama during a away game. Reports indicate he made inappropriate gestures before tensions peaked, resulting in him pushing back against a fan.
As Cousins left the court, he made physical contact with the fan, who retaliated by throwing a drink at him. This prompted other fans to join in, adding to an already chaotic atmosphere.
The former NBA player, who last played for the Denver Nuggets in the 2021-22 season, has since played in various leagues globally, including those in Mongolia and Ice Cube.
Cousins was an All-NBA First Team selection in 2011 and received All-NBA Second Team honors in 2015 and 2016 after being drafted fifth overall by the Sacramento Kings in 2010. Known for his unpredictable behavior, he holds the record for one of the quickest ejections in NBA history, having received two technical fouls in just three minutes during a game in 2021.
