Demario Davis Returns to Jets

Demario Davis has made a comeback, rejoining the Jets this week. The linebacker was originally drafted by the team in 2012 and traded in 2017. Now, at 37, he was welcomed back during a reunion at the Forum Park Training Center on Thursday.

“It really feels like coming home,” Davis expressed.

The Jets signed him to a two-year, $22 million deal, with $15 million guaranteed, acknowledging both his playing abilities and his leadership off the field.

Regarded as one of the premier leaders in the NFL, Davis’s presence is something coach Aaron Glenn values greatly.

“I believe in much of what is being built here under the leadership of AG Aaron Glenn, and for myself as a leader, this was a mission that I was excited to step into,” he mentioned. “I had no idea when I left here that I personally felt like the mission was a little incomplete. I’m thrilled to take this opportunity to revisit the mission and see what’s being built. I think there are a lot of positive developments in this organization. I can already see hints of it.”

Davis noted that it was an obvious decision to return, especially given his impending departure from the Saints, where he had played since 2018.

“I know what it means to be part of the Jets family,” he said. “We understand what it means to wear these colors and this brand. It means a lot to be back. It’s exciting to be a New York Jet again. Everyone should be fired up about what’s ahead.”

Davis and Glenn have crossed paths before; Glenn was a scout during Davis’s original draft and a young coach when Davis spent a year with the Browns, later working with him at the Saints too.

Davis believes in Glenn’s vision and feels he can contribute to transforming the Jets’ culture.

“I think we need to continue to do what he preaches. I believe he’s promoting the right message. There seems to be a locker room full of players who have embraced his coaching. We’re here to amplify that,” Davis remarked.

He has high expectations for the Jets moving forward.

“[Glenn] has a vision. He has a mission. All we need to do is stay committed to this journey, and I genuinely believe it will yield surprising results,” Davis predicted.

In other news, free agent safety Tony Adams has signed a one-year contract with the Titans, marking yet another former Jets player joining coach Robert Saleh in Tennessee.
