Democracy Could Completely Fail if Attacks on Judeo-Christian Values Persist

Concerns Over Rising Anti-Semitic Attacks

Ronald Lauder, President of the World Jewish Congress, raised alarms regarding the recent attacks on a synagogue and a Jewish kindergarten near Detroit, Michigan. He argues these incidents are not isolated but part of a pervasive wave of “terrorism targeting Western and Judeo-Christian values.”

In a statement made after the Detroit attacks, Lauder expressed urgent concerns. “If our leaders do not act quickly, democracy and society as we know it are at risk of complete collapse,” he emphasized.

Lauder pointed out that the synagogue attack was reportedly inspired by the Islamic State, following another violent event where explosives were used during a protest in New York.

His comments come after three synagogues in Canada were recently fired upon, and a bomb exploded outside a synagogue in Liege, Belgium, over the weekend. “These are not random events,” Lauder stated. “These are acts of terrorism aimed squarely at Western and Judeo-Christian values. The rise of anti-Semitic acts targeting Jews is part of the same war against those values.”

He noted, “It is nothing short of a miracle that no lives were lost in these attacks. But miracles and complacency cannot keep our communities safe. Bondi Beach showed how deadly such attacks can be.”

Earlier today, an assailant with a rifle was killed after driving into the synagogue and kindergarten in West Bloomfield Township, a suburb of Detroit. The facility accommodates up to 140 students, including early childhood programs.

Miraculously, there were no injuries reported aside from the attacker’s death. Jennifer Runyan, a special agent in charge of the FBI’s Detroit field office, classified the event as a “targeted act of violence against the Jewish community.”

This incident marks the latest in a troubling series of attacks against Jewish groups in North America and Europe, prompting worries among Jewish leaders that the violence could intensify into broader, more aggressive actions against Jewish and Western targets.
