Democracy is on the ballot this year we are told. We recently talked with an acquaintance who said she was voting this November for Biden to “save democracy.”
We know there are “low information” voters out there but we did not know that “no information” voters were quite so prevalent. It is hard to know where to start with such an individual so a polite nod is about all that could be offered. Even a casual following of the news over the past few years contradicts her position. Violations of democratic principles (let the people decide) have been parading in broad daylight.
In an era where at least the Democrat Party has made a fetish out of “democracy,” based largely on their attempt to turn the January 6th Capitol riot into an insurrection, it is interesting to explore their own allegiance to democratic principles.
We will avoid for the moment the technical debate about whether the US is a democracy or a republic, other than to say voters by majority cannot deny other citizens their rights, and hence it is clear we are a constitutional republic.
But, the word democracy has come to mean that citizens have broad powers to elect representatives within those protections of rights guaranteed by the constitution. It means our Congress and President are chosen by the people through fair elections.
The last few years have seen multiple violations of that principle, mostly by Democrats.
There was no armed attempt to overthrow the government on January 6th. It was a demonstration that turned into a regrettable riot. It likely did more damage to Trump and his followers than any real threat to the political order. Republicans lost their moral position on law and order.
However, Democrats have used riots and other political violence for years to change public opinion and to thus help change conditions so their pet legislation can be passed. The most recent examples are the Black Lives Matter riots of 2020, officially endorsed by the party in their platform, and now their leading candidate for President. These riots extended over multiple cities and lasted over 150 days, causing more than 2 billion dollars in damage and at least 25 deaths.
The result was an Administration that pushed DEI policies at all levels of government and government-funded institutions. It became a general assault on white heterosexuality, particularly males. Everyone who believed in equal treatment under the law was branded racist, homophobic, and a national security threat.
Recall the military was investigated for “white supremacy” and DEI policies forced upon the leadership. However, the actual report found little evidence of the key charges and instead focused on the behavior of veterans after their discharge. In short, they didn’t like the positions freely taken by soldiers when they became civilians once again.
Further, the President said the greatest security threat to America was white nationalism. Veterans, Christians, and others were part of extremist plots.
While the January 6th event received immense publicity, Congressional hearings, and extensive prosecution, there never has been a full investigation into the BLM riots. Why not? Because some violations of democracy are “more equal” than others.
The use of violence for political ends is about as far from letting people elect their representatives at the polls as can be imagined.
The use of force and compulsion, the loss of livelihoods, the division in families, and the rights to speech, assembly, and worship, were all trampled under the COVID hysteria, promoted by mask-wearing Democrats. Non-compliant members of the military were discharged during an acute shortage of manpower. People lost their jobs, their businesses, and in some cases medica treatment because of their vaccine status. Did we get to vote on any of that?
The government used its “influence” through contract work and regulations, to bully social media companies into censoring both the news and journalists. The rest of the media needed no bullying because they were completely on board through party affiliation.
Democrats attempted to stop Donald Trump from appearing on the ballot in multiple states. That is not very democratic, is it?
Nor was the multiple use of prosecutors and lawsuits, again, with the intent to interfere with the electoral process.
More recently, Democrats and the Left have torn major campuses apart over what they call the “occupation of Gaza” by Israel. Again, the use of violence and intimidation to change public opinion about US support of Israel.
At the most basic level, how respectful of “democracy” is it to allow foreign nationals, who break our immigration laws, to vote and replace the political influence of native-born Americans who have paid taxes for years and fought for the country? Yet, Democrats came out overwhelmingly against the SAVE ACT.
And now, the most recent violations of democracy. A President and candidate was known by many party insiders and members of the media to be mentally impaired. They ran him for office as a cutout, a political hologram so to speak, but he was not the officeholder people thought they were voting for.
In short, people were not voting for whom they thought. They thought they were getting a kind of centrist Democrat, and instead got an unelected and to date unknown, circle of radical advisors and family members who have been running the country.
Democrat leaders mislead not only the general public, they mislead members of their own party. They were not voting for Jill, Hunter, Obama, or an inner circle of advisors. This bait and switch was carried out in full daylight, with most party leaders aware of his condition. The media, the supposed guardian of the public, was complicit from day one.
It seems such a basic violation of the democratic principle: the person you are voting for should be the person you are voting for. Why vote for a political leader when someone else will really be performing the duties of office?
If whom we elect is not running the show, what is the point of democracy?
Now, to correct the obvious, they are attempting to pick a new leader overriding the voters who made their choice in primary elections. How democratic is a not so silent coup pulled off by Obama advisors and aids?
Anointing a candidate, and ignoring the wishes of primary voters, is about as far from a democratic process as possible.
But as the ads on TV say, “But there is more.” Indeed, as they fooled the American voters on the one hand, they attacked their opposition not with arguments, not with debate, and not with votes. They used the police and intelligence agencies, foreign spies, to enter into a conspiracy to accuse Donald Trump of being a Russian agent. This framing was planned and funded by high-level Democrat politicians in collusion with unelected law enforcement bureaucrats.
Here indeed, democracy died in darkness, the darkness of conspiracy and spy agencies.
Based on these conspiracies and lies, two impeachment proceedings were launched, all under the cover of doing “the people’s work,” when, in fact, they were doing the work of the unelected deep state.
Then, under the cover of the Covid crisis, they massively changed the prevailing rules and norms for elections.
It is hard to imagine a more undemocratic process when you look at all this in its totality and it all worked for them. The perpetrators claim they are the victims and apparently, a good portion of the public still believes them.
The Washington Post suggests that “democracy dies in darkness.” Yes, the darkness made possible by the media not doing its job. Thankfully, a small remnant of noncorporate and citizen journalists survived the undemocratic onslaught.
In summary, Democrats have attempted to deny a candidate access to the ballot in multiple states, used lawfare to destroy political opponents, used government pressure to censure the press, used government agencies in a partisan political fashion, avoided the primary process for their Presidential candidate, used the police and intelligence agencies to destroy a candidate in collusion with foreign intelligence agencies, have used a fraudulent cut out as President, hid the health conditions of that President, used unelected administrators to enact and enforce laws, attempted to intimidate Supreme Court Justices, want millions of illegals aliens to vote in elections, tried to end the filibuster, change the Constitution concerning the Electoral College, engaged in election interference at multiple levels, and used widespread violence to advance their agenda.
If we had time for the acquaintance we first spoke of, we could simply ask: Given this history, how can voting for Democrats save democracy when they have done more to trash the concept of any political party in recent history?
The last few years suggest democracy does not die in darkness. Democracy dies right in front of you in broad daylight. And still, many cannot see.
