Senators Conflict Over Trump’s Military Orders

Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) is part of a group of six Democratic senators calling on military members to disobey President Trump’s orders. However, in a recent speech, Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) highlighted that Slotkin admitted Trump had not issued any illegal orders.

Slotkin and her colleagues argue that certain orders may be unlawful, but she later conceded that Trump’s directives were not illegal. Mullin remarked, “The key point is that she recognized that neither President Trump, Secretary Hegseth, nor anyone in his administration gave an illegal directive. No Democrat has named an illegal order,” asserting that the Democrats’ motives were to “undermine the commander-in-chief.”

Mullin also suggested that Senator Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.), who is under Pentagon investigation, ought to face scrutiny for potentially trying to erode confidence in the commander-in-chief.

He expressed concern that the morale in the military is currently quite high, yet six senators are trying to create dissent against the president for, as he claimed, “non-political reasons.”

When asked what steps could be taken regarding the situation, Mullin remarked that Democrats have told military personnel that they would support them if they resist Trump’s orders. “Now that they’re in a tough spot, what’s the next step? Congress needs to investigate this,” he said, emphasizing that all involved, regardless of military or intelligence background, should be held accountable.

Mullin argued for uniform standards among all members of Congress, suggesting thorough investigations not only by the Department of the Army but also from Congress itself. He stated that the senators should be censured and publicly apologize for their actions, which he believes were driven by political motivations and hatred toward Trump.

“The Democratic base has the lowest approval ratings since the party’s inception,” he noted, but maintained that this issue offers an opportunity to confront them effectively. He expressed full support for actions being taken against Mark Kelly, believing that further measures should be pursed.
