Rep. Suhas Subramanyam’s TikTok Dance Draws Mixed Reactions
Rep. Suhas Subramanyam from Virginia recently took part in TikTok’s “Aura Agriculture” trend, sharing a video of himself dancing alone on the Congressional subway with the caption, “OMW to hold this administration accountable.”
In the brief clip, Subramanyam dons sunglasses, strikes various poses, and gives a wave to the camera. However, his participation in the trend seems to have missed the mark for some viewers, who labeled it as tone-deaf and hypocritical.
Angry comments from left-leaning viewers highlighted their frustrations with the perceived inaction of Democrats while Donald Trump was in office. One comment pointedly asked, “By doing nothing…?” Another remarked, “The representative has to stop doing this. Do something in practice.”
Several people also brought up Subramanyam’s voting history, referencing a recent controversial decision regarding a resolution against Trump that he chose not to support. On June 24, 2025, for example, he voted to table a resolution aimed at removing Trump over “high crimes and misdemeanors”—a measure introduced by Rep. Al Green from Texas but ultimately stalled.
Commentary on the video itself was quite varied. One user reacted with “-1000 Aura,” while another criticized him for “working hard for taxpayer money.” A prominent comment expressed that it felt like a strange choice to post the video.
One lengthy reply stated, “I’m not trying to be rude. But this sh—. The fire on the floor will be less. I’d like to do an outreach. But this is not what the average American needs from representatives right now.”
Another suggestion floated around was to “introduce new amendments to all of the TikToks of Congress that are necessary to co-sign three bills that work to limit the power of money in politics.”
Subramanyam, who previously served as a tech advisor in the Obama White House, has earned a reputation as a more moderate Democrat since taking Virginia’s 10th District seat in 2024. He often integrates themes of immigration into his political narrative.
The “Aura Agriculture” trend, popular among Gen Z and Gen Alpha, typically features simple dances and cool hand gestures while standing still. One recent viral video showcased an 11-year-old boy from Indonesia, Reyan Arkan Dika, confidently dancing in sunglasses on a racing boat.
Most of the “Aura Agriculture” clips on TikTok are set to the sound of “Young Black & Rich” by Mary Mike.
Fox News Digital has reached out to Subramanyam’s office and TikTok for further comments.
