Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that the Democratic National Convention was an “insult-filled hate fest.”
“Millions of viewers tuned in, a little more than they tuned in to the Republican Convention,” said host Jake Tapper. “It was disciplined, well produced and radiated patriotism and unity. The Harris campaign says it has raised an astounding $540 million in 35 days. You’re one of Donald Trump’s closest allies, so has what we’ve seen this week made him feel any uneasy about the campaign?”
Graham said, “If you’re a Republican, I didn’t see what you saw. I saw a hate-fest, a hate-fest full of insults. And Donald Trump said to Barack Obama, ‘You’re a good man,’ after President Obama continually insulted and denigrated President Trump. This was just to draw him into a back-and-forth of insults, light on policy and heavy on insults. So I said then and I say now to President Trump, ‘Focus on policy and you’ll win this election.'”
He added, “Americans don’t feel joy when they go to the gas station to put gas in their car. They don’t feel joy when they make their mortgage payment. They don’t feel joy when they go to the grocery store. People are suffering. These celebrations of joy and love don’t exist in the real world.”
