Democrat Dean Phillips Suspends Presidential Campaign, Endorses Biden

Democratic Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.) officially suspended his presidential campaign on Wednesday following a string of Super Tuesday defeats.

phillips Confirmed During an appearance on WCCO Radio, he announced his decision to withdraw from the Democratic race, saying, “I’m canceling my campaign and now I’m going to support President Biden.”

The congressman also wrote a lengthy post on X to praise President Joe Biden. That in itself is not surprising. When he initially announced his candidacy for president, he praised the 81-year-old Biden, asserting that he had “done a great job for our country.”

In 2011, I hosted then-Vice President Biden at my home. Most notable was his empathy and kindness towards my daughters and the catering staff, with whom we sat and ate ice cream (surprise, surprise). His common sense and wisdom were rare in politics at the time, and even more so today.

More than a decade later, the only thing that has changed is time. It’s slowing us all down a little bit, including the president.

Phyllis said she originally ran for Congress to “resist Donald Trump” and ran for president “to resist Donald Trump again.” Because the American people demand alternatives, and democracy requires choices.

“But it’s clear that the replacement is not me. And it’s clear that Joe Biden is our candidate, and it’s clear that the replacement is not going to be me. “It’s an opportunity to showcase what we’re all about,” Phillips continued.

Thank you to everyone who supported my efforts. We will continue our important work to ensure a more responsive, democratic, and generationally diverse political system. But given the harsh realities facing us today, I ask you to join me in rallying, galvanizing, and doing everything you can to keep decency and integrity in the White House. I will do it. That’s Joe Biden.

To accomplish this, let’s use invitation rather than confrontation to welcome Haley supporters, Trump supporters, and uncommitted supporters. It is our mission, our heritage, and our time. Let’s move forward with joy and patriotism!

The announcement came after Phillips failed to win a single game in Tuesday’s preliminary round.

“Congratulations to Joe Biden, Uncommitted, Marianne Williamson, and Nikki Haley for appealing to more Democratic voters than I did,” Phillips said Tuesday night after the results were announced. He wrote on social media:

In November, Phillips also announced that he would not seek re-election to his House seat.

“My path to public office began the morning after the 2016 election, when I was faced with the reality that democracy requires participation, not observation,” Phillips said in a statement at the time. “The time has come to pass the torch,” he added. ”

This further solidifies Biden’s sure path to winning the Democratic nomination, despite the large number of uncommitted voters opposing him in various states.

Meanwhile, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley (Republican) officially withdrew from the race, effectively cementing former President Donald Trump as the Republican candidate. But unlike Phillips, who supported his rival, Haley did not support Trump.

“Donald Trump will probably be the Republican nominee at the convention in July,” she said.

“I congratulate him and wish him the best. I wish the person who becomes president of the United States the best of luck. Our country is too precious to let our differences divide us.” She continued, then added, “It’s up to Donald Trump to win the votes not only within our party, but also those outside our party who didn’t support him.”
