Trump spoke for 92 minutes, breaking the record for the longest acceptance speech ever, and captivated a crowd that was energized and hopeful following the assassination attempt.
In a speech that Newsom called “boring,” Trump laid out his vision for America and gave an emotional recount of an assassination attempt in which he was shot in the ear and narrowly escaped death. “You’ll never hear this story from me again because it’s too painful to tell,” Trump said.
“There was just blood everywhere,” he said, describing how he put his hand to his ear and saw blood.
“I immediately realized the severity of the situation, I was under attack and I immediately dropped to the ground,” he said, noting that bullets continued to fly as Secret Service agents arrived.
“There was blood everywhere, but in a way I felt very safe because God was on my side,” Trump continued.
Trump claimed he survived by the grace of God, and God alone.
“Thank you, but I [supposed to be here]”And let me tell you, it is by the grace of Almighty God that I stand before you on this stage,” Trump declared.

Trump also began his speech by paying tribute to the life of Pennsylvania firefighter and shooting victim Corey Comperatore, who was killed in an assassination attempt while trying to protect his family from gunfire.
“He was a highly respected, highly respected former fire chief,” Trump said. “He was accompanied by his wife, Helen, a wonderful woman who I spoke to today, who is devastated, and by his two precious daughters.”
“He selfishly sacrificed his life to protect them from flying bullets by becoming a human shield. He passed right over them and got shot. He was a truly honorable man.”
The former president then walked across the stage to the Comperatore’s uniform, embraced it and kissed it.
