Democrat in Fox News op-ed: Trump 'making America expensive again'

Senator Chris Coons (d-del.) I followed after President Trump accused the Fox News manipulation on Wednesday of “making America expensive again.”

“A month after his term, President Trump has made America expensive again, and everyone is in pain,” Coons said in an opinion piece.

“Last year, President Donald Trump opposed inflation, and when he accepted the Republican presidential nomination last July, he said through his campaign, “We'll lower prices from day one to make America affordable,” the Delaware Senator added.

Trump recently tried to distance himself from rising inflation, which has returned to the White House and said “there is nothing to do.”

The president pointed out that former President Biden was the head of inflation and criticized what he had valued as reckless spending under the former president.

“Inflation is back. No, think about it: the back of inflation,” Trump said in an interview with Fox News last week. “And they said, 'Oh, Trump,' and I had nothing to do with it. ”

“These people run the country. They spent money so no one had spent it. … They were given $9 trillion to throw it out the window – 9 trillion,” the president continued.

“For a month, we've started looking in the direction Trump is taking our economy out of nowhere, but that's not pretty,” Coons said in his Fox News Op-Ed.

“Grocery is more expensive than ever. Egg prices are setting new records every day. Inflation has returned to above 3% for the first time in eight months. Nonpartisan experts in the Federal Reserve are hoping that inflation will continue to rise,” he added.

During the 2024 presidential election, the Biden administration was often accused by Trump of high prices, and prices for bacon, cereal, crackers and other items were slammed on the campaign trail.

But in an interview in December, Trump said he doesn't think the presidency would be a failure if food prices didn't drop.

“I want to defeat them. Once you defeat things, it's hard for them to stand up. You know, that's very difficult. But I think they'll do. I think energy will defeat them. I think a better supply chain will defeat them,” Trump said in an interview.

White House spokesman Caroline Leavitt issued a statement in an email to the Hill, claiming that in just a month, Trump “promising to bring about a new golden age for America, and accomplishing more than most presidents do in their entire term.”

“President Trump has taken historic actions to secure southern borders, unleash American energy control, protect American workers, and reestablish America's strength overseas,” she added.
