Democrat Judge Resigns After Suspected Tren De Aragua Gangbanger Arrested At His Home

A New Mexico Democratic judge resigned after illegal immigrants suspected of being members of the Tren de Aragua gang were arrested at his residence.

Donna County Magistrate Jose “Joel” Cano resigned from the bench shortly after Christian Ortegalopez was arrested by federal authorities in March. According to Albuquerque Journal. Ortega Lopez, a 23-year-old Venezuelan national, is accused of being an illegal immigrant with firearms and partnering with international crime syndicates and US-designated terrorist organization Tren de Aragua. Ministry of Justice In March Verified federal authorities have executed search warrants for four different illegal immigrants in New Mexico due to illegal possession of firearms and other related crimes. Ortega Lopez and three other Venezuelan illegal immigrants have been arrested in the operation.

“Ortega Lopez, an illegal alien from Venezuela suspected of being affiliated with Tren de Aragua, is said to have lived with other illegal aliens in Las Lucez and was in possession of a firearm,” the Justice Department said in a press release. “Investigators determined that Ortega Lopez illegally entered the United States on December 15, 2023, and was released with removal procedures pending.”

“Social media evidence showed Ortega Lopez in possession of multiple firearms at Las Cruces shooting range,” the Justice Department continued.

The arrest was carried out as part of a collaboration between the Department of Justice, the Department of Alcohol, the Department of Tobacco, Firearms, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), but he was in possession of multiple load firearms, including a pistol, revolver, shotgun and rifle. The Venezuelans eventually met Joel Cano’s wife, Nancy Cano, and according to court documents obtained by the Albuquerque Journal, he accepted her offer to stay in the “casita” behind her home in Las Cruces, New Mexico. In April 2024, Ortega Lopez submitted a request for immigration relief and listed Las Luth’s address in Cano as his home.

Prosecutors also say Ortega Lopez was introduced to April Cano, the daughter of Nancy, who “owned numerous firearms.” In a press release, the Justice Department revealed social media evidence that is allegedly indicating that he is in possession of a firearm.

Ortega Lopez and three other illegal immigrants each face 15 years in prison if convicted, according to the Justice Department. They will remain in custody pending trial.
