Incumbent Rep. Elissa Slotkin won Michigan’s Democratic primary for U.S. Senate on Tuesday, setting up a short general election campaign before November.
Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin of Michigan defeated actor Hill Harper in the state’s Democratic primary to fill the seat of retiring Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow.
Slotkin is currently a congressman from Michigan and a former Middle East analyst for the Central Intelligence Agency. She first ran for office in 2018, defeating the Republican incumbent to retake her district.
Four states hold key primary elections on Tuesday, setting the stage for November’s Senate and House showdowns.

Ms. Slotkin ran her Senate campaign as a moderate in the battleground state of Michigan, and she cited her work under former presidents Barack Obama and Bush to underscore that point.

Slotkin has also maintained cautious stances on Israel and war with Hamas, the terrorist group in the Gaza Strip. But Michigan has a sizable Arab population that has pressured the Biden administration to end military support for Israel. Slotkin’s Democratic opponent, Harper, has been a vocal critic of Israel and the Biden administration’s support for U.S. allies.
