Far-left Democratic Denver Mayor Mike Johnston oversaw $356 million of taxpayers' hard-earned money being spent on immigration. The total amount comes to $7,900 per foreigner in the Mile High City.
The total amount was revealed as Common Sense Institute (CSI), a nonpartisan research organization dedicated to protecting and promoting the U.S. economy, Fox News report.
The group says it used city data to arrive at the amount, which is 8% of the city's $4.4 billion 2025 budget. This number is a combination of Colorado city budgets and local education and health care providers.
Johnston has already cut city services that house and feed these immigrants.
The cuts include reducing services at recreation centers and canceling spring flower bed planting, while the city tapped into emergency funds to pay for rising costs, Fox News notes. Adding further:
CSI claims that most of the $356 million spent on immigration went to education, with the city also spending on health care, hotels, transportation, and child care. Denver is a sanctuary city, meaning it does not enforce immigration laws and the city does not cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.
Since December 2022, about 45,000 immigrants have arrived in the Denver metropolitan area and 16,197 immigrant students have enrolled in metro Denver schools, the organization said.
“The total cost to metro Denver schools associated with new immigrant students is $228 million annually, representing 1% to 2% of the state’s total K-12 education budget for the 2024-25 school year. ,” the group wrote.
“A previous CSI report estimated the cost of instruction and support per student in metro Denver at $14,100 per year.Assuming this cost is shared by all recent immigrant students, the total cost is $2. That's $28 million.
As reported by Breitbart News, Mr. Johnston is known for his generous support of President Joe Biden's illegal immigration, and his support for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to fulfill President-elect Donald Trump's deportation mandate. has vowed to use the city's police department to physically oppose the effort.
Tom Homan, Trump's nominee for border czar, responded by saying he would jail Johnston if he broke the law protecting illegal immigrants.
“All he has to do is watch the Arizona vs. USA game and realize he's breaking the law. But look, me and the mayor of Denver agree on one thing. He's going to jail, I'm going to put him in jail.
Mr Johnston said he was “not afraid” of going to prison. His efforts were compared to China's infamous 1989 Tiananmen Square protests. daily mail report.
“It's like Tiananmen Square with roses and guns, right?'' So did all the Highland moms who came for immigration. And we don’t want to interfere with them,” Johnston said.
