Governor Kathy Hawke (D-NY) just signed a stupid law requiring some retailers to install panic buttons for store employees.
But, but, I hear that crime is decreasing in America!
But, but, people like me are constantly being told we are exaggerating the crime that is ravaging Democrat-run cities!
The panic button will be triggered if stupid voters continue to vote for Democratic failures.
“[A]And many more.” Reports Reuters, “Retailers with 10 or more employees [are required] Adopt a violence prevention plan and keep a record of violent incidents for at least three years.”
“Additionally, retailers nationwide with more than 500 employees will be required to install panic buttons in easily accessible locations or provide wearable panic buttons,” the report adds.
Stay tuned: Another option involves a “cell phone-based alarm device to alert emergency authorities.”
Doesn't that already exist in the form of 9-1-1? Or is this snazzy new update the equivalent of pressing “9” instead of “9-1-1”?
This doesn't solve anything. Criminals understand that pressing the panic button is the same as calling 9-1-1. Let me explain…
According to the report, New York City has had “at least 40,900 complaints of retail theft so far this year,” a 2.7 percent increase over last year. The 40,900 cases of retail theft reflect only those that have been reported; since it doesn't accomplish anything, many retailers waste their time not reporting them.
Now, in New York City, there are 40,900 complaints of retail theft per year. That's 112 per day. Is this happening because there are no panic buttons? No. Think about it for a second. These thieves already know that everyone has a cell phone. So, they don't care that anyone can dial 911 in about half a second, especially when committing a crime in a retail store. If this reality doesn't discourage thieves, would a panic button do it?
These thieves know two things: 1) the police won't arrive in time to stop them, and 2) even if they do show up, there will be no serious criminal charges filed – they just walk out the revolving door.
There are only two ways to stop crime… The first is the “broken windows” approach that Mayor Rudy Giuliani used to save New York in the 1990s: aggressively crack down on quality of life crimes like panhandling and loitering. The second is to put convicted criminals in prison. That doesn't mean we have to put 40,900 people in prison; crime doesn't work that way. Put 100 retail theft perpetrators in prison and you'll probably cut retail theft in half or more.
All this panic button nonsense is just a way for New York Democrats to postulate and look like they're doing something about crime when they're not.
Democratic Party want Chaos and crime. They are trying to drive out the middle class. Cities and states populated only by poor Americans, illegal immigrants, and the wealthy elite who are unaffected by their policies will forever vote Democrat. In places like California, Colorado, Chicago, we see Democrats purposely creating chaos for the same reasons.
