Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer from New York chose not to comment on the recent scandal involving members of his party. Instead, he directed his attention to an anticipated criticism of President Donald Trump’s speech scheduled for Thursday.
According to reports, Arizona Democratic Senator Ruben Gallego has had sexual relationships with at least two staffers from other offices during his tenure in the House. House rules technically don’t prohibit such relationships, which complicates the situation.
Sources indicate that one of these relationships occurred when both parties were unmarried. When questioned about the situation, Schumer told Fox News Digital that his focus remains on Trump’s upcoming remarks regarding foreign interference in the 2020 election.
This controversy is just one of many affecting Gallego, who is also running for president in 2028. The reports mention that he has acknowledged his connection with an aide from the Texas Democratic Party.
When pressed by reporters about the allegations, Gallego responded, “I have no intention of getting involved in gossip.”
Furthermore, he has faced mounting scrutiny over his past association with former Representative Eric Swalwell, who resigned due to serious sexual assault allegations. Swalwell has firmly denied these accusations.
Gallego soon distanced himself from Swalwell, admitting that their close relationship had “clouded my judgment” regarding longstanding rumors about the former congressman. To manage the fallout from the controversies, Gallego has reportedly enlisted the help of a former deputy press secretary from President Joe Biden’s administration.
The inquiry into Gallego stems from claims by Congressman Anna Paulina Luna about sexual misconduct and campaign finance violations, which were dismissed by the Senate Ethics Committee last month. Following the dismissal, Gallego maintained that the allegations were part of a right-wing conspiracy fueled by Luna and others.
Luna has since responded to the latest situation, expressing her disbelief and calling for Gallego to resign. “I’m relieved people are speaking out to expose this troubling issue,” she stated.
