Tennessee Sen. London Lamar (Democrat) said she hopes the assassination attempt on former President Trump will motivate Republicans to support gun control.
Lamar didn’t mention that the would-be assassin was likely killed by good people with guns.
She posted on X:
“Trump said it’s OK, but will he consider sensible gun control? Gun violence is rampant in our country, and I hope this will change the minds of Trump’s supporters and Republican lawmakers.”

At the time of Lamar’s post on X, there was no news known about the type of firearm used in the assassination attempt or how it was obtained.
One might ask, what effect can gun control have when the types of firearms available are unknown and the means by which they can be obtained are unclear?

President Trump released a statement on Truth Social after the shooting, saying he wanted to “thank the Secret Service and all law enforcement for their swift response to this shooting.”
He also offered condolences for the innocent people in the crowd who were killed during the attack.
