Ro Khanna Defends Controversial Streamer Hasan Piker
During an episode of “Meet the Press” this past Sunday, Democratic Representative Ro Khanna from California mentioned that he plans to join Twitch streamer Hasan Piker again, despite Piker’s controversial actions and comments.
Piker has gained a significant following on the left and is seen as possibly influencing the politics leading up to the 2028 presidential election. While some in the Democratic Party praise his reach, others are worried about his past comments, which some have labeled anti-Semitic. In response to concerns raised by host Kristen Welker, Khanna stood by Piker.
Welker highlighted that many Democrats are uneasy with Piker’s rhetoric, noting some of his extreme statements, such as referring to ultra-Orthodox Jews in derogatory terms and making violent comparisons between groups. When asked if Khanna regrets his appearances on Piker’s show, he replied, “Not really. I’d love to go again.”
The controversy surrounding Piker intensified when Vice President J.D. Vance condemned him for allegedly using a shock collar on his dog during a livestream in October 2025. Videos have surfaced showing Piker threatening to use the device to keep his dog, Kaya, in check during broadcasts. Kaya’s distressed screams led many to speculate about the collar’s use. Experts have warned that such devices can lead to anxiety and aggression in pets.
A fellow streamer, Tektone, criticized Piker’s use of the collar, stating that Kaya’s screams indicated the collar was set too high. The ongoing discourse surrounding Piker and his methods has sparked debate within political and animal welfare circles.
