Democrat Unhappy with How Tim Walz Handled Minnesota Riots

Republicans aren’t the only ones criticizing Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (Democrat) for his response to the George Floyd riots in the state.

CNN interviewed a Democrat who was living in Minneapolis at the time and described the incident as “very scary.”

“I feel there are serious issues with the way our governor handled the riots,” she said, with the reporter narrating, “What still troubles her is how Democratic Gov. Tim Walz handled the riots a few years ago.”

The program reported that Governor Walz acknowledged that some of the criticism of his response was valid, but felt that further reinforcements could have added fuel to the fire.

CNN interviewed another Minnesota resident, a Republican-leaning independent, who said, “I think it’s his fault. I don’t know why he waited. I don’t know why he burned the city, but it was awful and people shouldn’t forget that.”

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley expressed a similar sentiment, Breitbart News Daily He said it was crucial that voters remember that Waltz, Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, bears responsibility for the Minneapolis riots this week.

“The No. 1 image that should literally be burned into the minds of every American is the riots in Minnesota and the state of Minnesota burning for four days because they refused to send in the National Guard,” Watley said of Walz, before criticizing his wife for appreciating the smell of the city burning so much.

“His wife bragged that she rolled down the window so she could smell Minnesota burning, and his daughter was there protesting with them,” he said, referring to a statement made by Walz’s wife:

“The first few days of the riots, you could smell burning tires,” she said, “and that was very real. I kept my window open as much as I could, because I felt that was a touchstone for what was going on.”

Watley went on to slam Walz for “defending the mob and blaming it on a lack of inclusivity and equity in Minnesota,” and for letting the city burn.

“The fact that that city burned like that, the fact that he stood by and refused to call in the National Guard to quell the riots, the fact that he said he would make Minnesota the first sanctuary state in the country, the fact that he would invest in a ladder company that helps people get over walls,” he said, adding further perspective to Walz’s extreme nature.

Whatley continued to list Walz’s actions as governor: “He’s given illegal immigrants free health care, free college education, and, you know, he’s done everything he can to push the border back into Minnesota, putting every Minnesotan at risk,” she said, calling Walz, the running mate, “really dangerous.”
