Colorado Democratic Gov. Jared Polis praised President-elect Trump for nominating Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to be the next Secretary of Health and Human Services.
In a lengthy social media post Thursday, Polis praised Kennedy for helping Colorado “defeat its vaccine mandate” in 2019 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“He helped defeat Colorado's vaccine mandate in 2019 and will help make America healthy again by shaking up HHS and the FDA,” he wrote.
“I hope he leans toward personal choice rather than banning vaccines (which I think is just as bad as mandating them), but I'm most optimistic that we and confronting big pharmaceutical companies and agricultural oligopolies to improve the health of Americans,” Polis said. .

President Trump announced Thursday afternoon that he would nominate RFK Jr. for Secretary of Health and Human Services, sparking a storm of praise and criticism.
In his announcement, President Trump pledged that Kennedy would lead HHS and restore the agency as the “gold standard for scientific research.”
“For too long, the American people have been overwhelmed by the food complex and drug companies that have perpetrated deceit, misinformation, and disinformation about public health,” Trump wrote. “Mr. Kennedy will restore these institutions to a tradition of gold-standard scientific research and a beacon of transparency, end the epidemic of chronic disease, and make America great and healthy again!”

Kennedy started his presidential campaign as a Democrat, but ultimately supported Trump.
Kennedy also spoke at Trump's historic Madison Square Garden rally last month, where he vented about the current state of the Democratic Party.

This is not the first time Kennedy has been considered for a cabinet position in a presidential administration. In 2008, then-President-elect Obama strongly considered Kennedy to head the Environmental Protection Agency, Politico reported at the time.
Polis has been critical of Trump's inauguration. He recently worked with Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker to co-chair a new coalition called Governors Defending Democracy.
The website cites “rapid disinformation campaigns” and “cyber threats” as examples of “threats to democracy.”

“I'm going to work with him and his administration as much as I can for the state,” Polis said of Trump on MSNBC's “Morning Joe.”
Polis expressed similar sentiments, writing to X that he looked forward to “partnering with him to make America truly healthy again.”
