Democratic governors worried after not hearing from Biden after disastrous debate

Tensions continue to simmer within the Democratic Party over how to treat President Joe Biden following his abysmal performance in last week’s debate, with Biden seemingly ignoring entire sections of his party in an effort to protect himself.

CNN host Jake Tapper reported that Democratic governors had called an emergency meeting without staff to discuss how to proceed in light of Biden’s apparent deterioration in his mental health, although Biden’s campaign staff were not on the call.

The call was hosted by Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on behalf of the Democratic Governors Association, and the governors’ biggest complaint was that Biden had not given them any assurances that he would stay in the race and serve another term.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, like many others, said he was “scared.”

“On the conference call, there was discussion about wanting to have a conference call with the campaign and the White House. There was discussion about having Vice President Harris speak. There was a strong feeling that we needed to hear directly from President Biden,” he continued.

“They’re going to have a meeting. [White House] …or Zoom for those who can’t come. …Nothing’s been decided yet… [White House] Tapper said Democratic governors didn’t come with a specific message, but they felt they needed to hear what President Biden had to say. explanation.

Other Democrats have begun to offer bolder, more forthright assessments of Biden’s performance during the debate.

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island said he, like many others, was “horrified” by Biden’s weak speech, constant mumbling and lack of clarity in his train of thought.

“People want to hear from the president and his team speaking openly about his condition and making sure that this is truly something unusual and not just how he’s been lately,” he told a local news station.

Congressman Lloyd Doggett, who represents Austin, statement Senator Doggett on Tuesday called on Biden to withdraw from the presidential race, making him the first member of Congress to publicly declare that Biden should not be the Democratic nominee.
