Democratic lawmaker faces criticism for 'colluding' with Epstein during congressional hearing

House Freedom Caucus Moves to Censure Rep. Plaskett

Ralph Norman, a member of the House Freedom Caucus, has introduced a motion to censure Democratic Representative Stacey Plaskett from the Virgin Islands. This follows the release of an email suggesting she was “colluding” with Jeffrey Epstein during a Congressional hearing.

Recently, the House Oversight Committee made public a substantial number of documents from Epstein’s estate. Among these, it was found that Plaskett sent text messages to Epstein during a 2019 congressional hearing, seeking his advice on how to question Michael Cohen, who was at that time one of President Donald Trump’s attorneys.

“This censure formally censors Ms. Plaskett and strips her of her committee assignments,” the motion states.

During that hearing, Plaskett communicated with Epstein, even receiving compliments on her attire. In a statement, her office confirmed the exchanges, asserting that she welcomed any information that could aid in uncovering the truth.

In response to the situation, Plaskett’s office emphasized her history as a former prosecutor, her commitment to confronting Republicans who might seek to obscure the truth, and her long-standing fight against sexual assault and human trafficking. They reiterated her disapproval of Epstein’s actions and her support for his victims.

In light of these events, the House Freedom Caucus is pushing forward with the censure motion, which, if successful, would remove Plaskett from her committee positions, including her role on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
