Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York posted a short post on social media Thursday night criticizing Republicans for moving forward with the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
Jeffries wrote in a post on I’m thinking about it,” he wrote.
He added: “My response? Get lost.”
The post comes as the U.S. Senate is scheduled to receive the articles of impeachment against Mayorkas passed by the House of Representatives next month.

On Thursday, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) notified Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (New York) that the House will formally transmit articles of impeachment to the chamber on April 10.
In a letter to Schumer, Prime Minister Johnson urged him to hold an impeachment trial “quickly.”
“As Speaker of the United States House of Representatives and Impeachment Managers, we plan to introduce duly passed articles of impeachment regarding Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas when the Senate returns on April 10, 2024. I am writing to inform you of this and urge you to promptly schedule a trial in this matter,” Johnson wrote.

House votes to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas over border crisis
In February, all but three House Republicans voted to impeach Mr. Mayorkas over his treatment or mischaracterization of Republican content on the U.S. southern border. This is the first time since 1876 that a cabinet minister has been impeached.

Schumer’s office told Fox News Digital that the impeachment trial will begin once the Senate receives the articles of impeachment.
“As previously stated, after the House impeachment managers deliver articles of impeachment to the Senate, senators will be sworn in as jurors in a trial the next day, presided over by Senate President pro tempore Patty Murray.”

It is highly unlikely that this trial will result in a conviction.
