On Wednesday, Democratic leaders accused Rep. Randy Fein (R-FL) of calling fellow lawmakers “terrorists” and making light of the Muslim faith.
“Randy Fein’s racist and Islamophobic remarks regarding Rep. are truly appalling. We have been marginalized for weeks amid horrific political violence targeting Minnesota officials,” stated a representative from California in a press release.
“This is an extremely challenging period for our nation, and Congress members should not provoke violence. Randy Fein needs to apologize immediately,” they added.
On Tuesday, Fein criticized Ilhan Omar for condemning Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s third visit to Washington this year.
“War criminals shouldn’t be welcomed by either the president or Congress. They should face accountability for their actions, not for their platform. It’s beyond shameful,” stated Omar in a post.
Fein made a controversial comment, expressing, “I’m sure it’s hard to see us welcoming many of your fellow Muslim terrorists,” in a post on X.
He continued, “The only disgrace is that you are in Congress.”
Just three days prior, Fein had commented, “Muslim terrorists hang out together,” under an image featuring Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MN) and New York City Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani, both Muslims.
Omar, Tlaib, and Mamdani have faced backlash for their support of Palestinian statehood and for criticizing President Trump’s close association with Netanyahu.
Some GOP lawmakers have called for the deportation of both Mamdani and Omar following their statements.
President Trump also warned that elected officials who oppose his immigration policies may face removal.
Mamdani responded, stating, “The President threatened to have me arrested, stripped of my citizenship, placed in a detention camp, and deported, not for any legal wrongdoing; it’s truly frightening for our city.”
He added, “This statement is not just an assault on our democracy, but an attempt to intimidate all New Yorkers who refuse to live in fear.”
