Investigation into Trump Administration’s Role in Comedy Show Pull
On Thursday, during MSNBC’s “deadline,” Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) expressed concerns about the Trump administration’s influence in the abrupt removal of comedian Jimmy Kimmel’s show.
Host Alex Witt pointed out that after Kimmel’s show was taken off the air due to remarks he made about Charlie Kirk, Democrats have initiated an investigation into the matter.
Witt then inquired about the initial steps of this investigation and what the broader implications might be.
Garcia responded by emphasizing the seriousness of the situation involving Charlie Kirk, calling it “horrifying.” He underscored the need for universal condemnation of political violence and reiterated the importance of free speech in the U.S. He expressed concern over media companies, like Sinclair and ABC, feeling pressure to remove late-night hosts who share their views during their comedic routines.
He went on to say that media organizations play a vital role in informing the public, especially when they seem to align with the desires of the president.
Garcia stated, “It’s crucial that people in this country can express differing opinions. In his monologue, Kimmel highlighted sentiments shared by many Americans, but it seems that the administration, political entities, and the media might be worried about how these views are portrayed.”
