Democrats urged to ‘disavow’ Hasan Piker

Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic nominee for Senate from Michigan, is currently facing scrutiny regarding his campaign’s associations with far-left streamer Hasan Piker. Piker’s controversial statements about Jewish Americans have prompted prominent Democrats to caution their peers to distance themselves from him. Former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer discussed the ramifications of this issue and highlighted rising concerns about antisemitism linked to the far-left during a recent appearance on “America Reports.”

Michigan Senators Elissa Slotkin and Jacky Rosen have both condemned Piker after he suggested that Jewish Americans would face repercussions for their support of Israel. In a livestream, he previously remarked that “if Jews in America keep putting this idea out there that they are singularly invested in Israel, eventually someone is going to come around and take action, not against the state of Israel, mind you, but against American Jews.”

Slotkin, who is seen as a potential contender for the 2028 presidential election, released a statement addressing Piker’s comments, stating that no community should face threats of violence over their political beliefs. She emphasized, “That goes if you’re pro-Israel, pro-Palestine, pro-choice, pro-life or any other cause you care about. And blaming the victims of violence for bringing it on themselves only further endangers people.”

She elaborated that in a climate where antisemitism and political violence are increasing—mentioning a recent near-fatal antisemitic incident at Temple Israel—nobody should casually blame any group for being targeted.

Rosen echoed similar sentiments, labeling Piker’s statements as “a new low” and condemning the idea of blaming Jewish Americans for the hate and violence they face. She insisted that such notions provide a rationale for those committing antisemitic acts, asserting that “crimes against Jews for being Jews is antisemitism plain and simple. There’s no excuse for it.”

Moreover, many politicians across various parties have criticized Piker for seemingly victim-blaming the Jewish community. Although El-Sayed has previously downplayed Piker’s past comments, he appeared to distance himself from the streamer in light of the latest controversy.

Piker’s history includes a number of contentious remarks, from asserting “America deserved 9/11” to expressing support for extreme economic viewpoints. The current backlash seems particularly focused on his recent comments and their implications for political discourse.
