Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) stated that Democrats are looking to shut down the government to deliver a “political message” to Republicans during his appearance on Breitbart News Daily.
“Their goal is to send a clear signal to the Republicans by offloading many other commitments,” Roy explained. He emphasized that the straightforward message for Republicans is to maintain government funding, similar to what the Democrats want.
“Remember, they plan to take it to the floor and press Republicans. They are looking to shut down the government while wanting to keep funding in place. A decade ago, we expressed concerns about the implications of implementing Obamacare, and guess what? They persisted despite our warning,” he noted.
“At this point, Democrats seem to argue against continuous funding of the government. They insist we should halt it altogether, especially when it comes to military funding. It’s a bit shocking, really. There was a covid grant during that time, and they didn’t support it when Republicans were behind it.”
“It’s not as if Republicans were in favor of it… Those grants are set to end this year, yet they still want to push to increase them. It’s kind of ironic, given what we’ve experienced in the past,” the Texas Attorney General pointed out.

“When you tally it all up, it’s a significant expansion—over a trillion dollars. This is where I think they’re starting to lose the battle. Americans are starting to see the bigger picture and realizing we want to ensure continued government funding. But then there’s inflation, which has spiraled, consuming a huge part of our GDP, and by 2031, it’s projected to cost more than $7 trillion,” he concluded.
Without a resolution, the government is set to shut down by the middle of the night.
