Democrats and some Republicans celebrate the unexpected removal of Pam Bondi from the DOJ

Democrats React to Pam Bondi’s Firing

Democrats are celebrating the sudden dismissal of Justice Secretary Pam Bondi, expressing their approval on social media with remarks like “well done.”

The news broke after President Trump confirmed on Truth Social that Bondi would resign as U.S. attorney general. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) voiced relief, stating, “Thank goodness. Pam Bondi was the wrong choice from the beginning.”

Schumer also commented on what he views as rampant corruption within the Department of Justice under Trump, emphasizing that as long as Trump uses the agency for personal vendettas, issues like the Epstein cover-up will persist.

Response from Prominent Democrats

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) remarked that Bondi would be remembered for blocking the Epstein files and politically targeting Trump’s opposition. “Under Secretary Pam Bondi, the Justice Department has become a cesspool of corruption,” she added, though she did acknowledge some good she believes Bondi has done.

Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) criticized Bondi’s tenure, stating it was marked by a concerning weaponization of the Department of Justice, which he claims undermined the rule of law. He pointed to various instances of alleged political bias within the department during her leadership.

On the House side, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries from New York stated, “Pam Bondi is a partisan, angry, political hack. And now she’s gone.” He expressed gratitude for her firing and hinted that others may follow suit.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) didn’t hold back after the announcement, voicing strong criticism of the choices made during Trump’s presidency, including the nomination of Bondi. She called for a need for a “do-over” in terms of leadership and accountability.

Calls for Accountability

Rep. Yasamine Ansari, a Democrat from Arizona, indicated that Bondi, despite her firing, must still comply with legal requests regarding the Epstein case. “She may be fired, but she is not above the law,” Ansari stated, stressing the importance of justice for victims.

Interestingly, not all reactions were negative towards Bondi. Rep. Nancy Mace (R-N.C.) criticized Bondi for mishandling the Epstein file, expressing that accountability and transparency are essential in justice leadership. She seemed optimistic about the potential replacement by Lee Zeldin, the head of the EPA.

Some Republican figures, like Sen. Rick Scott from Florida, defended Bondi, praising her legal expertise and contributions to public safety. Former Congressman Matt Gaetz also, in defense of Bondi, emphasized her dedication as a public servant.

Future Implications

Political analyst Jonathan Turley highlighted the significance of Bondi’s departure, noting it had been more of a rumor until recently. He suggested that the transition to her successor, Todd Blanche, would likely be smooth. There are hints that if Zeldin is appointed, he could have strong support in Congress.
