Trump Criticizes Democrats Amid Government Funding Negotiations
President Donald Trump recently emphasized the actions taken by Republicans in the House to fund the government, which were brought to the attention of Democrats before being rejected by Senate Democrats.
During a press briefing in the Oval Office concerning drug price reductions at Pfizer, Trump responded to a question from Breitbart News regarding the impending government shutdown. He remarked that there’s been heightened discussion—roughly a third of the time—focused on the Democrat party regarding this issue.
“They’re shutting it down. We’re not shutting it down. We don’t want to shut it down because we have the best period ever. We’re investing $17 trillion, so the last people who want to shut it down are us,” Trump stated.
However, he alluded to potential actions his administration could take if government funding lapses as anticipated late Wednesday morning.
“That being said, you can implement certain ‘irreversible’ actions during a shutdown—irreversible for them and for us. You all know about Russell; he’s become quite popular lately,” Trump added.
He conveyed that Democrats would be “taking risks” if the government were to close. “So they take risks by shutting down, because during a shutdown, we can medically include things and find other ways. We could exclude many people. That’s not our wish, but we also want to avoid fraud, waste, and abuse. Yet they seem to support illegal immigration and want those individuals to access extensive healthcare at the expense of taxpayers. That’s not something we can accommodate.”
“This is a major reason they’re pushing for this strike—providing healthcare for illegal immigrants. And I know Gavin Newsom supports it in California; it’s detrimental to the state. We can’t allow that to happen.”
