Rep. Ro Khanna Discusses Budget Stance
During an appearance on “MSNBC Report,” Representative Ro Khanna (D-CA) expressed on Monday that he will not tolerate being sidelined in the upcoming budget discussions in September. This statement comes in light of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) recently pushing for a budget resolution led by Republicans.
Host Ali Vitali pointed out, “As you return to Washington, the fundraising competition at the end of September is of interest. Last time, there were significant surprises between the Senate and the House. House Democrats felt sidelined by their Senate counterparts, which I think can be significant leverage.”
Khanna replied, “We’re committed. We will push back and uphold our principles.”
Vitali then asked, “What does that look like in practice?”
Khanna explained, “It means we might withhold our votes until we secure some fundamental concessions. And what are those concessions? Simply follow the law. Avoid using militarization in our processes. Allocate funds for vaccine implementation; we support science here. This ultimately is about maintaining the integrity and authority of Congress.”
