Democrats Face Unprecedented Approval Ratings
Harry Enten, a senior data reporter at CNN, reported on Sunday that the Democrats are experiencing the lowest net approval rating ever recorded.
A recent opinion survey released by the Wall Street Journal found the party’s net approval rating stands at -30 points, while CNN reported it at -26. Enten pointed out that with the setup of “CNN News Central,” these figures reflect the worst ratings for Democrats since the 1990s.
“I mean, wow. We brought up CNN before, and that poll showed pretty negative reviews,” Enten commented. “They’re 26 points underwater. Is that low enough? Could it get even worse? Now looking at the Wall Street Journal, they’ve hit -30, which is their all-time low. These polls go back to the 90s.”
A WSJ poll showed that 63% of voters think the Democrats are at a disadvantage, the highest percentage in that poll’s history since 1990. Currently, Democrats have a negative rating of -30 points, while Republicans have shifted to an 11-point advantage.
As of mid-July, only 39% of Democratic voters expressed approval of their party members, with 52% disapproving. According to a poll by Quinnipiac University, such sentiments have persisted, leaving the party lagging ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Following the loss in the 2024 election, the party has reported notably low favorable reviews. A NBC News opinion survey conducted in March found that only 27% of voters viewed the Democratic Party positively, marking their least favorable rating since 1990. Meanwhile, CNN’s polls for the same month indicated a support rate of 29%, the lowest since 1992.
Enten also noted that as of July 1, former President Donald Trump had a strong approval rating of 63% among Republican voters.
