Some Democrats are reportedly panicking about the state of President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign.
For almost the entire 2024 campaign, Biden has trailed Donald Trump. In a national opinion pollPolls not only show that Biden is losing to Trump, but that the Democratic coalition is fracturing and that Trump and the Republican Party are making inroads among black, Hispanic and younger voters.
“The biggest political challenge facing the president starts with a ‘I,’ and it’s not Israel, it’s inflation.”
Biden’s consistently poor polling numbers are sounding alarm bells among Democrats and causing “full-scale panic.” According to Politico.
In fact, one prominent adviser to Democratic donors shared with Politico a list of reasons he told donors why Biden might lose reelection. According to Politico’s report, the list includes “nearly two dozen” reasons, including Biden’s age, the economy, inflation, the border crisis and immigration, and the persistent unpopularity of Vice President Kamala Harris.
“The list of reasons we can ‘win’ is so short that I don’t even need to keep it on my phone,” the adviser said.
Another Democratic strategist explained that the problem for Biden is that Americans remember that their lives were better under President Trump.
“If the framework of this campaign is, ‘Would you rather have three and a half years of Biden or four years of Trump?’ then we lose on that every day and we lose twice on Sunday,” Democratic strategist Pete Giangreco told Politico.
While Biden’s campaign is ignoring the polls and the obvious challenges facing its campaign, Politico says a “sense of fear is spreading” among Democrats, where “fear has turned into palpable anxiety.”
“This isn’t, ‘Oh my goodness, Mitt Romney might become president.’ This is, ‘Oh my goodness, democracy might end,'” the Democratic activist said.
Meanwhile, it’s clear that Republicans smell blood.
Last week, Trump held a rally in the Bronx, a quintessential Democratic stronghold. But polls show that Even showing it Biden’s lead in New York has been shrinking, despite winning the state by more than 20 points in the 2020 election.
“New York Democrats need to wake up. The New York I know is an astonishing number of people, including people of color, who have positive things to say about Trump,” Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine told Politico.
If you ask James Carville why the Democrats are likely to lose this election, he will tell you it’s because his party is focusing on the wrong issues.
“We wonder why young people aren’t coming back to the Democratic Party, why black people aren’t coming back to the Democratic Party, because the Democratic message is crap,” Carville said. Said On the weekend.
“Don’t talk about the cost of living and say, ‘We’ll help you deal with this,'” he advised. “And stop talking about Gaza and student loan bullshit. That’s a no-go.”
Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-N.Y.) very much agreed.
“The biggest political challenge facing the president starts with ‘I,’ and it’s not Israel, it’s inflation,” Torres acknowledged to Politico. “The cost of living is a challenge that we have to figure out how to address.”
