Republicans will be thrilled that, two months after President-elect Trump's decisive and power-transition victory, Democrats continue to prove themselves ignorant and tone-deaf.
But if you're one of the tens of millions of Americans hurt by inflation, mass illegal immigration, crime, crumbling cities, failing public schools, crippling health care costs and unemployment, you probably will continue to feel depressed and worry about: Democratic leaders and liberal media would rather make virtue appeals to the far left than address the issues that will transform your quality of life and put you and your family at risk.
As an example of this futile virtue-signalling, last week the House Ethics Committee released a report on the “long-awaited” — three and a half years in the making, at taxpayer expense — report on former Congressmen. Let's take a look at how the left stacks up. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida).
First of all, the last time I checked, the US judicial system still presumes innocent unless proven guilty. In Gaetz's case, that doesn't seem to be the case for many on the left.
Second, it should be noted that the release of this report was almost unprecedented for the committee and appears to have been done with the express purpose of embarrassing Gaetz and putting Republicans on the defensive. But what will future hearings, potentially innocent people, and the truth cost?
A lawyer representing Gaetz answered that question in part: “The Commission publishes its report with a clear admission that it lacks jurisdiction over former members, fails to abide by the concept of constitutional due process, and fails to abide by its own procedural rules. This precedent represents an unprecedented overreach that threatens fundamental constitutional rights and established procedural protections.”
As I highlighted in previous columns about Ukraine, honest, unbiased, fact-based reporting appears to be on the wane in the Trump era. Regarding the Gates story, Molly Hemingway, editor-in-chief of The Federalist, did some truly exceptional reporting on the case.
At that very point, last Monday, Hemingway Posted on X: “Sometimes I feel like I was the only reporter who looked into the details of the Gaetz charges, and I was surprised to find out that the accuser has committed the same false accusations against others for having sex with minors.” I learned that he was in prison.”
Before that, Hemingway had written the following works: Detailed article The Nov. 17 headline read, “House investigation into Matt Gaetz relies on witnesses the Justice Department finds unreliable.” Remember, it was the Biden-Harris Justice Department.
All this back-and-forth about the Gaetz affair aside, the left's constant bloodbath to sensationalize, embarrass, gloat, or fundraise the report has left candidates and the party with nothing to lose from the embarrassing election results. Not only have they not learned, they continue to drown out the voices of the two constituencies they once thought most important to protect: the working class and the disenfranchised.
Come November 6th, Democrats quickly returned to their insane strategy of slandering and smearing Republicans while simultaneously impeaching Trump again, ignoring his successful policies and demonizing his character and words. It seems as if the illusion of doing so has resurfaced.
Again, perhaps this is great for raising money from some of the perpetually angry and even hateful far left, but it's true that there are tens of millions of people whose lives have been forever changed by one person's failure. It doesn't help working class, disenfranchised Americans at all. Many of them were staunch Democrats. But that's no longer the case.
Mr. Trump has just made significant inroads with black, Hispanic, Asian, women, and young voters. why? Because the people who jumped on the Trump train from these communities don't believe that the Democratic Party is listening to them or that it's the Democrats who are imposing policies that make their lives worse. It's a body.
The main strategy of many Democrats and the far left is to attack Trump, Gaetz, Vance, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Pete Hegseth, and other Republicans at the direct expense of the working class and disenfranchised. If it's constant denigration, then so be it. -They will be watching from the outside for the next 10 years or more.
Don't get me wrong. In many ways, Trump is counting on predictable and failed strategies to further solidify his vision into policy and law.
