Discussion on Open Primaries and 2024 Election
During HBO’s “real-time” segment on Friday, Donna Brazile, a contributor to ABC News and former chair of the Democratic National Committee, mentioned that the lack of an open primary for the 2024 candidate selection stemmed from the assumption that President Joe Biden would step aside. This idea revolved around the belief that a certain candidate could potentially defeat him.
In the conversation about Biden’s recent interview and the upcoming presidential election, Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) commented, “If Democrats had an open primary, it would make a difference.”
Host Bill Maher concurred, noting that an open primary could indeed influence the situation.
Brazile added, “I thought most Americans believed they wouldn’t vote for someone with a felony conviction, thinking it would be simpler, and that wouldn’t pose a problem.”
