Democrats Discussing ‘How’ to Replace Biden, ‘Not Whether’

CNN commentator Van Jones said on “Anderson Cooper 360” Wednesday that Democrats are debating behind closed doors not whether but “how” to replace President Joe Biden at the top of their shortlist.

“I’ll be honest with you. I mean, everyone goes on TV and says great things, but behind the scenes there’s total panic. People are passing around legal memos, PDFs are flying around on WhatsApp, trying to figure out what their options are. How do we replace Biden? How do we get him to do it in a way that makes him feel respected? Should he be respected? Who should be Kamala Harris’ running mate?” Jones said.

He added, “The conversation on air and the conversation off air are completely different. It’s just like what we saw with the Trump situation, people go on TV and defend Trump, but when you talk to people, they say you have a crazy candidate. You don’t have a crazy candidate. You have a great candidate. You have a great person. You have someone who loves his country. You have someone who has given every last drop of their life to this country, and he may not get across the finish line. A mature political party has to take that into account, and that’s what’s happening. I understand people want to defend them, to protect Trump, to give him the space and the dignity to make his choice, but right now there’s a big debate not about if this will happen, but how it will happen.”
