Democrats distance themselves from megadonor Gaurav Srivastava who allegedly posed as a CIA operative

The now-disbanded Biden campaign and other Democratic politicians and committees have frozen or returned donations from an Indian national who allegedly defrauded foreign businessmen out of millions of dollars by tricking them into believing he had ties to the CIA.

Gaurav Srivastava is accused of duping a prominent Dutch trader into a business partnership under the guise of trading sanctioned Russian oil, then donating more than $1 million to Democratic causes, including the former campaign of the 81-year-old president. The Wall Street Journal It was reported on Tuesday.

Srivastava allegedly pressured Niels Troost, founder of Paramount Energy & Commodities SA, to sell half of the company, obtain a $51 million loan through an Indonesian intermediary and move the Switzerland-based company to the U.S. Troost said Srivastava claimed the plan was backed by his “bosses” at the CIA.

“He never disclosed what the money was being used for,” Troost told The Wall Street Journal.

Apparently it was being used to benefit the Democratic Party.

Ahead of the 2022 midterm elections, Srivastava donated $500,000 to the Senate Majority PAC, which supports Democratic candidates, according to Federal Election Commission records.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the green card-holding college dropout donated more than $200,000 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) that year, as well as five-figure contributions to the campaign committees of Reps. Pat Ryan (D-N.Y.) and Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.).

In 2023, Srivastava donated about $290,000 to the DCCC, made the maximum individual contribution allowed to the Biden campaign, and also donated $50,000 to the Biden Victory Fund.

Politico reported earlier this year that the Biden campaign and the DCCC had frozen Srivastava's donations, which also contained false personal information, after his fraud allegations were reported.

The Wall Street Journal also noted that these groups, as well as Senate Majority PAC, had “frozen or returned” Srivastava's donations.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Srivastava's fraud allegations are being investigated by the FBI.

Srivastava's lawyer denied the allegations made by the media.
