Democrats Don’t Represent ‘Majority of the Country’

Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk explained to California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) that Democrats do not represent “the majority of the country.”

During Thursday's episode This is Gavin Newsom Newsom of the podcast said Kirk is creating a “point of pride” by not completing his “four-year degree.”

Listen to:

“Most of the country doesn't have university degrees,” Kirk continued. “And if I could be openly criticizing the Democrats, you guys were very college-qualified and educated, and you snatched the muscular class of this country, people who were running floating around during COVID.”

“The majority of the country didn't go to Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Stanford, California Institute of Technology, or Berkeley in California, and Republicans are largely representative of them much more thanks to Trump,” the founder of Turning Point USA added.

Kirk told Newsom, “Because as an entrepreneur, I tried to build something, not just to seek qualifications,” the California governor replied, “Love it.”

“Yeah, it's an open job that doesn't require a college degree,” Kirk said.

Newsom then asked Kirk to elaborate on his criticism of the Democrats and his view that “we are captured by this kind of university elite.”

“Do you specifically refer to that context?” Newsom asked.

Kirk immediately replied, “Your voter,” saying, “The higher the education ladder, the higher the correlation is that you vote for Democrats. It's almost one-on-one with a PhD, and 75% for a Masters degree, and 65% for a four-year university.”

“Why do you think so?” asked the California governor.

Kirk pointed out that people theorize the answer to that question in a variety of ways.

“The sloppy analysis is, 'Oh, they're smarter, so they have to be Democrats' and I think it's stupid and crazy,” he said. I agree with that. ”

“A deeper, deeper analysis is that many of the ideological bubbles present on these university campuses are homogeneous rather than heterodox when it comes to the idea being expressed,” continued the founder of Turning Point USA.

“Secondly, the value system you have on your university campus is a high level of trust in the institution,” Kirk added. “The biggest disparity in America isn't on the left, but that's whether you generally trust the institution.

Kirk details:

In the early 2000s, Democrats were lowly trusted by institutions, including the Iraq War, anti-Bush, anti-NSA, and anti-Patriot acts. It's completely inverted. On the right is the low-reliance organization of the institutions, where the left is currently a high trust of the institution. We are those who are trying out the Covid vaccine and we are those who think that public health officials may have lied to us during Covid. We are people who don't necessarily believe in the government when they say they should continue to send money to Ukraine.

Again, that's a general rule. There are a few exceptions to that. But when you go to university, you are trained to trust experts, scientists, and trust people who are leaders of authority. And the Democrats are primarily gatekeepers of such ideological and intellectual administrations.

“Are you claiming disaster? The end of higher education?” Newsom asked.

Kirk said, “I think it's going to happen no matter what. Ten years from now, artificial intelligence is trying to change everything, so I don't know what these four-year degrees are actually doing to prepare these kids.”

“But am I defending the end of the pursuit of learning? Of course, it's not,” revealed the founder of TPUSA. “That's one of my big criticisms. It's that many of these schools don't pursue good, truth, beautiful.”

“This became a repression Olympics and a weaponized complaint seminar, and a complaint seminar for those who find out who was most offended that day,” Kirk elicited a laugh that hinted at a consensus from the news.

“It's not doing anything good for anyone,” Kirk said. The California governor agreed, “No.”

“And in fact it creates a very weak political movement,” Kirk added. “I think this is one of the reasons we were able to steamroll you guys in November.”
