Recent insights into former President Joe Biden’s tenure reveal some surprising considerations, including that his team contemplated using a wheelchair for him during his release. This tidbit comes from an upcoming book titled “The Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Concealment, and the Miserable Choice to Run Again.”
This revelation prompts some thought about how Democrats and their media allies are approaching the 2024 race. It raises questions about whether they might take a different approach, perhaps echoing FDR by presenting Biden in a wheelchair, suggesting even that would be preferable to Trump.
There’s an understanding as to why Biden’s campaign might have chosen to misrepresent his capabilities—after all, frailty isn’t an appealing trait in a leader. Yet, I think many missed the point that voters often prefer honesty over obvious misrepresentations.
Conversations I’ve had with voters across the country after Biden’s exit from the race show that most recognized his decline. It was somewhat of an open secret, even among Democrats, and few bought into the notion that manipulated video footage could change the narrative.
For around 40% of voters who strongly oppose Donald Trump, it didn’t really matter; they would have opted for any alternative, even if that was as far back as President Woodrow Wilson’s era.
Biden’s team has consistently obscured the reality of his health, as highlighted by White House Press Secretary remarks. However, a number of individuals either accepted this misrepresentation or made excuses for it, akin to sentiments expressed in Shakespeare’s Sonnet 138.
The real issue for Biden and Democrats in 2024 was the independent voters. They were somewhat open to believing Biden was okay, recognizing him as preferable to Trump.
Despite the façade of physical agility—like biking and engaging in light narratives—the fundamental debate seemed undercut by the underlying issues.
This is a significant concern discussed by Jessica Tarlov from Fox News back in February 2024. There seems to be a widespread sentiment regarding Biden as being “delivered” to Americans, but there’s an argument to be made that the Biden administration might find Trump’s presence preferable, which would negate the need for overt dishonesty.
The greater transgression might be being aware of the lies being told. In this circumstance, Biden’s team has placed both Democratic and independent voters in a precarious position—leading to a disreputable end to the race.
On a brighter note, both the Democrats and liberal media are facing the consequences of their actions. The stark outcomes demonstrated during the 2024 elections were humiliating, revealing not just failures but also exposing dishonesty.
As for Biden, it’s perhaps the saddest aspect that he couldn’t conclude his long public service with dignity, instead being maneuvered like a puppet, creating a facade of vitality.
It often takes time, but, as Shakespeare once articulated, “In the end, the truth is [win].” Perhaps, going forward, Democrats might take this lesson to heart.
